Relationships so often define the quality of our lives. Humans are social beings who thrive when we experience sustained healthy connections to the important people in our lives; when we feel safe, visible, creative and alive.
Many of us seek marriage or a committed partnership for this reason. While it can bring us a tremendous sense of well-being and joy, there can be times of conflict, frustration, hurt, and disappointment. Couples often interpret conflict as a sign that they are “drifting apart,” or even that they’ve “married the wrong person.” Impasses can occur, leaving both people feeling misunderstood and lonely.
But what if you were to discover that there are hidden messages in those conflicts… that they can bring us new growth and aliveness that will result in deeper intimacy and connectedness?
At the Imago Relationship Institute of Charlottesville we teach couples how to reinterpret their frustrations. We give them the tools they need to resolve conflicts in a manner that leads to greater closeness, where both partners emerge feeling safe, visible, creative, and alive once again.
Patricia Martin, Ph.D. and Judith Minter, L.C.S.W are Certified Imago Therapists and Certified Imago Couples Workshop Presenters. They have formed the Imago Relationship Institute of Charlottesville to promote this state-of-the art approach to relationship growth. Through their clinical work they have found that individuals who embrace these ideas develop a more positive view of both self and partner. Parents who learn these skills adopt a healthier view of child-rearing and have improved family relationships.
